A few weeks ago I posted a poll asking how many bird feeders people had. We’ve had 8 responses (7 in addition to our own) so far and once again Pam and I have some work to do!
Bird Feedin’ Maniacs
I thought we were doing pretty good with having four feeders in our yard. It turns out that we had the fewest! Here’s how things break down so far:
Four Feeders 1 (that’s us)
Seven or More 3 (These were before I added more options so some of these might have much more than 7 feeders!)
Seven to Ten 3
Sixteen or More 1 (I think I know who you are but I won’t tell )
Frankly, I’m impressed. There are some serious bird feeding people out there. I’m sure the birds appreciate it!
I’ll keep the survey open so new readers who find the post can add to it.
Keep Participating
Thanks to all of you who read the blog and participate in the polls. I enjoy seeing the results and I hope you do as well. If you haven’t responded to the latest poll “Where do you buy your birdseed” please do. We’re getting a little more participation with this one so weigh in if you haven’t yet.
Just in time for the weekend, here’s another exciting survey to complete.
Bird Seed Ain’t Cheap
Since we started feeding the birds with more regularity we have seen our “seed budget” increase quite a bit. One thing is for sure, bird seed is expensive! To keep from going broke we’ve been scouring the different places to buy seed to see if we can get quality seed at a little lower price. That got me thinking (always a dangerous thing), where do all the other big time backyard bird feeder types get their seed from?
After the last poll, How Many Bird Feeders Do You Have (final results soon), I know some of you must be buying a lot of seed since you have over 7 feeders in your yard! So, go ahead and complete this little survey and then, if you don’t mind, tell us in the comments where you have found the best bird seed deals. Maybe we can help each other save a little $$$ by sharing our favorite bird seed buying places.
OK backyard bird feeding people, this is for you. We are deep into the heart of backyard bird feeding season and millions of us lure birds to our yards with all kinds of seeds and other edible morsels. So, if you love to feed the birds and your budget for seed exceeds the family grocery bill, let the world know about your fanaticism! Or, if you like to let the birds fend for themselves we have an option for you as well.
This poll is a very simple one: How many bird feeders do you have? Count up all of the feeders you have in your yard and check the appropriate button. I’ve started this off with our answer, which is 4 feeders.
A couple of weeks ago I posted the first poll on the site titled “How Many Birds Are On Your Life List“. Being new birders we wanted to see what we were up against as far as number of birds seen.
The Envelope Please
Well, we have some results, though not as many as I would have hoped. But, this was the first, of what I hope will be many, polls/surveys on the site so it’s a good start.
There have been 8 responses so far and here is how it broke down:
0-50 birds- 25%
251-500- 25%
501-750- 50%
Wow, some serious birders read this blog! I guess I should be flattered, thanks for reading. Both Pam and I are in the 0-50 bird group and it’s a little hard to imagine having more than 500 birds on our life list. So, whoever you are that has 500+ birds on your life list, congratulations are in order! That’s a fantastic achievement and we hope to be there one day as well.
I will keep this poll open so as new readers find this blog (Spread The Word!) they can take the poll as well.
Stay Tuned For More
This was only the first of many polls that I have planned. There are so many things that I’d like to know about all you birders out there. I plan on doing another one here in a couple of days. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions for poll questions you’d like to see answered please let me know!
I’m going to start a new, hopefully regular, feature on Birds In Your Backyard, that would be a poll or survey that we all can participate in. I did some research on poll/survey plugins and found Survey Gizmo. It seems to have a lot of features and it looks like it will work well. Hopefully you find this fun.
Numbers Please
Let’s kick this thing off with something that every birdwatcher has, a life list. From what I gather so far, birders are a rather obsessive bunch (I mean that in a good way). We like to keep statistics and see where we compare with everyone else. The life list is a good way to measure ourselves against others. I’ll kick it off by “voting” my life list of 24 birds and Pam’s 14 birds. Those should be easy numbers for many of you to beat
The survey will be open for a few days at least. I’ll do a follow up post summarizing the results. I’m interested to see how many birds all of you have on your lists.
